Kecheng Fang (方可成) is a doctoral candidate (ABD) at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania. His research interests include digital media, journalism, and political communication, mainly in the Chinese context. He has been working on several projects examining the digital disruption in the information environment in an authoritarian regime, including how China's propaganda machine adapts to digital media and seeks to win hearts and minds both at home and abroad, how users creatively participate in online collective actions, and how media organizations respond to the changes. His dissertation project, supported by the Chiang-ching Kuo Foundation Dissertation Fellowship, uses a novel data-driven approach to investigate the range of ideological perspectives represented in the news media in China.
